What Causes Frizz?
Moisture in the air: Humidity is one of the worst culprits for frizzy hair. When there’s moisture in the air, it breaks the bonds in your hair, making it swell and frizz up. “Dry hair tends to soak up the moisture in the air, causing the hair cuticle to swell,” explains Morgan. “This is why your hair tends to get frizzier in hot, damp weather.”
Friction: Friction is another major cause of frizz. Brushing, your pillowcase choice and towel drying can ruffle the hair cuticle, leading to frizz. Always be gentle with your hair, advises Morgan.
Dry, damaged hair: If your hair is dry or damaged from heat styling or chemical treatments, it’s more likely to frizz. Why? Because dry, damaged hair is more porous, allowing moisture to get in and cause frizz. “Keeping your hair healthy and hydrated is key,” says Morgan.

Tips To Prevent & Improve Frizzy Hair
Use the right shampoo and conditioner: Hydration is crucial because moisturised hair is less likely to absorb humidity. Look for moisture-rich gentle shampoos that cleanse without stripping the hair of its natural protective oils. Morgan recommends Kevin Murphy HYDRATE.ME.
Follow with a frizz-taming leave-in conditioner like from the mid-shaft down to the ends to replenish and lock in moisture, making your hair less likely to absorb humidity. Finish by detangling gently with a wide-tooth comb to minimise breakage.

Have a weekly hydrating hair mask: Frizz is your hair’s cry for moisture so add a weekly deep hydrating mask, like HYDRATE.ME to your haircare routine, particularly if your hair is dry or chemically processed.
To repair damage by heat styling and colouring add an in-salon Olaplex or Epres bond repairing treatment next visit. It will rebuild, repair and strengthen your hair from the inside out making it less prone to frizz.
Be gentle when drying your hair: Always blot any excess water out after washing, never rub with a towel. Ideally, buy a microfibre towel to minimise friction and breakage. It’s much kinder to your hair.
Always use a heat protector: Protect your hair from heat damage by using a heat protector spray like our Kevin Murphy BLOWDRY or HEATED.DEFENSE. “Lower the heat setting a notch or two. You don’t have to give up your heated styling tools, just use them wisely,” Morgan advises.
If you have curly hair, Morgan suggests trying a diffuser to soften the airflow, reduce frizz and keep your curls smooth and bouncy.
Use an anti-frizz serum: Finish with an anti-frizz serum to form a protective barrier around the strands and shield them from moisture. Try our Kevin Murphy YOUNG.AGAIN OIL for frizz control.
Have a regular trim: Trim those frazzled ends every six to eight weeks to prevent damage from travelling up your hair and cut out split ends.
Switch to a silk pillowcase: Silk pillowcases are gentler on the hair, help with shine and lower cuticle-roughening friction. “It’s a simple switch that can make a big difference,” says Morgan.
